Toffee Nose, Bluenose, Fuck Knows 11: Sonic Youth

16th March 2021

21:54. Marcus was enjoying a quiet drink with Jonny in his office. As he swirled the remains of his Scotch in the glass, Marcus asked Johnny his thoughts on the recent Youth Candidates vs U-18’s match they’d taken in that evening.

“Well, boss” started Johnny, “As you know, it ended up 1-1. But the U-18’s were very dominant. Our summer pickup from Arsenal, Jake Weaver got the MOTM award and rightly so. He was everywhere. But, before I go into details, this came from Bryan Klug. It’s an overview of the youth intake as is…

Marcus took the proffered sheet and looked at it.

“As you can see, there are four standouts. The main guy is attacking player, Stephen Rodgers. We’ll be well served by him in the future. He’ll hopefully be a foil or, if it comes to it, a replacement for Erling Haaland. But for now, we’ll train him on the left wing!.”

“Next up is winger Samuel Johnson. He’s a decent standard already. I can see him playing a few games at the end of the season and becoming a squad player by the start of next season. Yes, he’s that good already, boss!”

“Third is Thomas Kenny. We’re pretty saturated for full backs, but this means we can let Seamus Coleman run down his contract and leave without struggling. He’ll then sit third behind his namesake Jonjo Kenny and Kyle John which means he’ll be able to play without interruptions until 18, then go to Crewe on loan!”

“Finally, we have Jordan Reed. He’ll be a good link from the middle to attack, but we’ll train him to be primarily a midfielder as it fits our system better. He’s got a long way to go and I’m not entirely sure he’ll make it, but we’ll work with him as best as possible!”

Marcus nodded. This was exactly why he paid them the big bucks. He needed some youth infusion in this side and hopefully he was going to get it!
